Employment History

Senior Software Engineer. — Transvirtual Technologies Inc. (San Francisco, CA)
August 2000-December 2001

Working primarily on the XOE project, a complete end-to-end solution for PDAs and other resource constrained devices. XOE, previously known as PocketLinux, is an open source framework based entirely on Linux, Java, and XML. Day to day engineering work included maintaining the build system, kernel programming, Java applications programming, JVM internals and JNI coding. Other experience includes building cross compiler tool chains and creating embedded Linux distributions.

Field Applications Engineer — MathEngine Inc (Oxford, England and San Francisco, CA)
August 1999-July 2000

Worked with customers to help bring realistic physics to the next generation of computer games. Involved coding in C/C++ and experience using many next generation gaming platforms. Where possible all work was Linux based. Three months spent in Tokyo working on Japanese launch title for PS/2.

Other skills acquired include CVS, Bugzilla and project management using make and autoconf. Also worked on the MathEngine developer web site using MySQL, Perl, and PHP.

Assistant Systems Administrator — Real World Holdings Ltd. (Box, Avon)
1995-1996

Six months working with a network of over 100 users in five different companies. Real World is a world renowned recording studio and publisher of music and multimedia. Experience gained in computing, networking and music technologies. Primary role was administering a heterogeneous network of MacOS, Windows, Solaris, and Linux machines. Returned often during university as a consultant.

Multimedia Programming Work Experience — Real World Multimedia (Box, Avon)
1995-1996

Five weeks working on several multimedia projects involving coding, graphics and other work with high end computers. Credits include work on Eve and Ceremony of Innocence, two highly acclaimed multimedia CD-ROM projects.

Computing Skills

8 years of programming experience and 5 years of Linux specialisation.

Knowledge of, and experience using, many computing platforms and operating systems including Linux, Irix, Solaris, MacOS and Windows.

Extensive experience with many modern programming and scripting languages. Specialities include: C/C++, Python, C#, Java, make/autoconf(m4)/automake/libtool, Borne sh/bash, XML/SGML, OpenGL, SQL.

Official Debian developer and active member of the Debian community.

Experience working with PS/2 on one of the Japanese launch titles, Primal Image.

Owner and administrator of superduper.net which hosts several personal open source projects using anonymous CVS, Apache and Mailman.

10 years snowboarding and 17 years skiing.

Experienced lead rock climber.

Interests and Hobbies

Snowboarding. This is a major passion of mine. I have been snowboarding since 1993 and I was the snowboard representative in my university ski club. During my two years in California I made frequent treks to the snow in Lake Tahoe. In 2001 I decided to take leave of absence to spend an entire winter snowboarding in the French Alps
Rock Climbing. This occupies much of my spare time when I can't find any snow. I plan to conquer many of the walls in Yosemite valley.
Computers and programming. These are my primary hobbies. I enjoy nothing more than tinkering with Linux and the latest open source software. I have recently started several projects of my own, which are hosted on superduper.net. Python is my current language of choice
